Kitchen Porter Job Description
Recruiting Today is partnering with several prestigious hotels, restaurants, and corporate catering facilities in the heart of London WC2 to recruit reliable and hardworking Kitchen Porters. This is a fundamental back of house role that is essential to the smooth operation of any kitchen. As a Kitchen Porter (KP), you will be the backbone of the culinary team, ensuring chefs have a clean, safe, and organised workspace to deliver exceptional food.
We specialise in connecting candidates with roles that match their skills and availability. Whether you're an experienced KP looking for your next challenge, or someone with a strong work ethic seeking entry into the hospitality sector, our local consultants in London understand the market. By registering with us, you gain access to a wide network of employers who value prompt, professional staffing solutions, much like the service we provide for urgent dispatch roles or warehouse operative positions.
Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties
- Maintaining Impeccable Cleanliness: Thorough washing of pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment. Operating industrial dishwashers and ensuring all items are sanitised and stored correctly.
- Kitchen Hygiene & Safety: Regular cleaning of floors, work surfaces, sinks, and walls. Responsible for waste segregation and removal, keeping the kitchen area tidy and compliant with health and safety standards at all times.
- Stock & Preparation Support: Assisting with basic food prep such as peeling vegetables. Helping with the receipt and safe storage of deliveries, rotating stock, and maintaining organised storage areas.
- Team Support: Working collaboratively with chefs, cooks, and waiting staff. Responding promptly to requests for clean equipment and ensuring the kitchen workflow is not disrupted.
- Equipment Care: Basic maintenance and reporting of any faults in kitchen machinery (e.g., dishwashers, waste disposal units).
What We're Looking For in a Candidate
- Strong Work Ethic & Reliability: Punctuality and a proven ability to work hard in a fast-paced environment. This role is as demanding as it is essential, similar to the reliability needed for distribution supervisor roles.
- Team Player Attitude: Ability to follow instructions from chefs and work cooperatively under pressure.
- Physical Stamina: The role involves standing for long periods, lifting, carrying, and manual handling.
- Basic Food Hygiene Awareness: A Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate is a significant advantage, but training can be provided for the right candidate with a positive attitude.
