Frequently Asked Questions
While experience in a healthcare or care home setting is a significant advantage, it is not always mandatory. The core requirements are exceptional front-desk, administrative, and customer service skills. Experience in a hotel, corporate reception, or a busy medical practice is highly transferable. The key is demonstrating empathy, discretion, and the ability to handle sensitive situations calmly. We assess candidates on their overall suitability, and full induction training on care-specific protocols is always provided.
Yes, flexibility is often available. Care homes require coverage across extended hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. This can create opportunities for both full-time (e.g., 9-5) and part-time or condensed hours. When you speak with our consultant, be clear about your availability. We match candidates with roles that fit their preferred shift patterns wherever possible, similar to how we arrange flexible work for temporary jobs in Milton Keynes.
This role is an excellent entry point into the healthcare administration sector. With experience, you could progress to Senior Receptionist, Administration Team Leader, or Care Home Administrator roles with increased responsibility for budgets, staffing, and compliance. Some individuals use the experience as a stepping stone into care coordination, training, or management within the social care sector. Recruiting Today supports career growth; we often have more senior administrative vacancies, much like our Interim Finance Director placements for finance professionals.
For candidates who are immediately available and have all their documentation (right-to-work, references) ready, the process can be very swift. We have placed suitable candidates within 48-72 hours of application for urgent needs. The average timeline from application to start is 5-7 working days, which includes the client interview. The key is to apply promptly and respond quickly to our consultant's requests. This mirrors the speed of our on-demand staffing service for clients.
Yes, an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is a mandatory requirement for working in a care home environment, as you will have access to vulnerable adults. If you have a current, portable enhanced DBS on the Update Service, this will speed up the process significantly. If not, Recruiting Today will guide you through the application for a new check, which is a cost typically covered by the agency or employer. This is a standard compliance step for all our care sector roles.
