Key Responsibilities & Day-to-Day Duties

As an HGV Class 1 Driver in Bristol BS11, your core duties will include:

• Safely operating articulated lorries for the delivery and collection of goods across the UK, with a focus on routes originating from or destined for the Bristol port and logistics area.
• Completing pre-use and post-use vehicle checks (walk-around checks) and accurately reporting any defects or maintenance issues in line with DVSA standards.
• Planning efficient routes using digital tachograph systems and satellite navigation, while accounting for traffic, weather, and delivery time windows.
• Loading and unloading goods using appropriate methods, which may involve the use of tail lifts, pump trucks, or working alongside warehouse teams. Some manual handling is required.
• Ensuring all transport documentation (e.g., CMR notes, delivery manifests, digital POD systems) is completed accurately and legally for every journey.
• Maintaining excellent communication with transport offices, customers, and site security to ensure smooth operations.
• Upholding the highest standards of health and safety, vehicle cleanliness, and professional conduct on the road and on client premises.
• Adhering strictly to EU Drivers' Hours and Working Time Regulations, and ensuring all digital tachograph records are compliant.

Essential Requirements & Qualifications

To be successful in this HGV Class 1 Driver role, you must possess:

• A valid, clean UK Cat C+E (HGV Class 1) driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points (certain endorsements may disqualify).
• A current, valid Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) card with all 35 hours of periodic training up to date.
• A valid Digital Tachograph Card.
• Proven experience as an HGV Class 1 Driver, with recent references covering the last 5 years of employment.
• Excellent knowledge of UK road traffic laws, drivers' hours regulations, and vehicle safety practices.
• Strong geographical knowledge of the UK, particularly the South West and M4/M5 corridors.
• The right to work in the UK indefinitely (we will require proof).

While not always essential, experience with ADR (dangerous goods), HIAB crane operation, or multi-drop retail work is highly advantageous and can command higher pay rates.
