  • Conduct routine safety inspections and testing of equipment, adhering to all health and safety regulations, including PUWER and LOLER, and maintaining accurate logbooks and service records.
  • Respond to building management system (BMS) alarms, investigating issues and implementing corrective actions to maintain optimal environmental conditions.
  • Support minor installation projects and fabric maintenance tasks, such as patching, painting, and basic carpentry, to ensure the site remains in excellent condition.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Technician, preferably within a commercial, industrial, or manufacturing setting. A formal engineering qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 2/3 in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering) is highly desirable.
  • Strong multi-skilling ability with competency in both mechanical and basic electrical disciplines (up to 415V). Experience with HVAC, pneumatics, or single/three-phase power is a significant advantage.
  • A safety-first mindset with a thorough understanding of safe working practices, permit-to-work systems, and risk assessments. A valid CSCS card or equivalent site safety passport is beneficial.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently with mínimal supervision, and strong communication skills to interact effectively with site management and contractors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a typical day look like for a Maintenance Technician in CB4?

A typical day involves starting with a team briefing, reviewing the planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedule, and prioritising any outstanding reactive work orders from the previous day. You'll spend your time across various tasks: conducting routine inspections and servicing of equipment like HVAC units and pumps, responding to breakdowns, performing safety checks, and completing work order documentation. The role is hands-on, varied, and crucial for preventing downtime in the facility.

What qualifications or certifications do I need for this role?

While formal qualifications like a City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2/3 in an engineering discipline are highly desirable, proven hands-on experience is often equally valued. Certifications such as a CSCS card, IPAF, PASMA, or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations are significant advantages and may be required for specific sites. Most importantly, we look for a solid foundation in mechanical or electrical fault-finding and a strong commitment to health and safety protocols.

Is this a temporary role only, or is there a chance of a permanent position?

This position is initially offered on a temporary basis through Recruiting Today, which allows both you and the client to assess the fit. However, for candidates who demonstrate skill, reliability, and a strong work ethic, there is a very clear and common pathway to a temp-to-perm contract. Many of our temporary assignments, from Warehouse Jobs in Cardiff to technical roles like this, transition into permanent opportunities.

How quickly can I start after applying?

We pride ourselves on speed. For candidates with all their documentation ready (right-to-work, references, etc.), we can often complete registration within 24-48 hours. Given the client's need for an immediate start, successful applicants could be on-site within a few days of their initial application. The process is designed for efficiency, similar to our approach for urgent roles like an Urgent Data Entry Clerk in Gloucester.

Do you have other similar roles for a Forklift Driver in Cambridge or a Dispatch Operative?

Absolutely. Recruiting Today specialises in a wide range of industrial and logistics roles. We frequently recruit for Forklift Driver positions in Cambridge and the surrounding areas, as well as Dispatch Operative roles. While our focus here is on the Maintenance Technician vacancy, we encourage you to register with us broadly. This gives our consultants the full picture of your skills, allowing them to match you with the best immediate opportunity, whether it's in maintenance, driving, warehousing, or dispatch.

What support does Recruiting Today provide during my assignment?

You are not on your own. From day one, you will have a dedicated recruitment consultant as your main point of contact. They will handle your timesheets, ensure you are paid correctly and on time each week, and be available to answer any queries you have about your role or the client. We provide ongoing support throughout your assignment, ensuring any issues are resolved promptly and that you have a positive experience working with us.
