Healthcare Administrator Jobs in Cambridge CB4 | Immediate Start & Local Opportunities
Recruiting Today is actively recruiting for an experienced Healthcare Administrator for a vital temporary placement in Cambridge CB4. An ASAP start, competitive pay, and a clear path to ongoing work are available for the right candidate seeking a rewarding career in healthcare administration.
Job Description
Recruiting Today is partnering with a leading healthcare provider in the Cambridge CB4 area to recruit a dedicated and efficient Healthcare Administrator. This role is central to the smooth operation of a busy clinical department, requiring a professional who can manage complex administrative systems, support multi-disciplinary teams, and provide a first-class service to patients and staff. The position has become available due to an internal promotion and represents an excellent opportunity to join a respected organisation at the heart of the UK's life sciences hub. For candidates looking for immediate starts and a chance to prove their skills in a fast-paced environment, this role offers both challenge and reward.
As a specialist in connecting talent with opportunity, Recruiting Today understands the specific demands of the Cambridge healthcare sector. This isn't just another admin job; it's a chance to contribute directly to patient care and operational excellence within a world-renowned institution. We manage the entire recruitment process, from initial screening to onboarding, ensuring a seamless transition for both candidate and client. Whether you're seeking a temporary position to bridge a gap or a temp-to-perm pathway into a stable career, our dedicated consultants in Cambridge are here to match your skills with the right opportunity. Similar to how we support roles like an Administrative Support Officer in Southampton or a Customer Account Executive in Canary Wharf, we provide local, expert guidance for healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and clinical staff, managing enquiries via phone, email, and in-person with professionalism and empathy.
- Coordinate and manage complex patient appointment schedules using specialist hospital software (e.g., SystmOne, EMIS), ensuring optimal clinic utilisation and minimal waiting times.
- Process and update confidential patient records with absolute accuracy, adhering strictly to GDPR and NHS data protection protocols at all times.
- Liaise effectively with clinical teams, external agencies, and other hospital departments to facilitate seamless patient pathways and communication.
- Handle administrative tasks such as typing clinical letters, processing referrals, managing stationery supplies, and supporting the preparation for audits and meetings.
- Support the department with basic financial administration, including processing invoices and monitoring budget codes for low-value orders.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe and welcoming clinical environment, adhering to all health and safety and infection control policies.
What We're Looking For
- Proven Experience: Significant previous experience in an administrative role, ideally within a healthcare, clinical, or NHS setting. Experience with patient administration systems (PAS) is highly desirable.
- Exceptional Organisational Skills: The ability to prioritise a demanding workload, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and maintain meticulous attention to detail under pressure.
- Superb Communication: Excellent verbal and written English, with the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with people from all backgrounds, including patients who may be distressed.
- Technical Proficiency: High confidence in using Microsoft Office Suite (especially Outlook, Word, and Excel) and the ability to quickly learn new, bespoke database software.
- Discretion & Teamwork: A demonstrable understanding of confidentiality and a proactive, collaborative approach to supporting the wider team.

This specific vacancy is advertised as a temporary placement to cover a fixed-term need. However, many of our temporary roles, especially within the stable healthcare sector, have the strong potential to become temp-to-perm opportunities. Performance, team fit, and ongoing client need are the determining factors. We have a strong track record of placing temporary staff into permanent positions with our client partners across the UK, much like our successful placements for Warehouse Operatives in Portsmouth or Temporary Jobs in Milton Keynes.
Yes. As this role involves working within a clinical environment and handling sensitive patient data, an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is mandatory. If you have a current, portable DBS certificate registered with the Update Service, this will significantly speed up your onboarding. If not, Recruiting Today will initiate and manage a new enhanced DBS application for you as part of the registration process. There is no cost to you for this check.
